Workshop: CO-CREATION WITH YOUNG PEOPLE (with Ned Glasier)
A workshop for dance and theatre artists in Scotland, taught by Ned Glasier & hosted by Shotput
“Truly inspiring and beautifully practical” - participant
Co-creation with Young People is an introduction to the ethics, process and practice of making live performance with teenagers and young people, led by Ned Glasier - the former Artistic Director of the multi-award-winning Company Three, one of the UK’s leading youth theatres.
This practical, fun and discursive 2-day course explores how to create a space in which young people feel comfortable to express what they really think - and how to use their instincts, ideas and stories to create transformative work together. It includes games, exercises and a step by step guide to co-creation that has influenced the practice of thousands of participatory artists across the UK.
The course is suitable for professionals with all levels of experience - from people who were recently teenagers themselves to long-standing choreographers and directors of youth dance and theatre companies. It has a particular focus on the role of the adult artist in the room, and how important their artistry and craft is to the practice of co-creation.
The course is free for freelance artists. Participants from regularly funded organisations may apply on a fee-paying basis.

ABOUT NED GLASIER & SHOTPUT
Ned Glasier is best known for productions made with young people including Brainstorm (National Theatre/BBC), Boat (Battersea Arts Centre) and When This Is Over (Yard Theatre). He was the founder and artistic director of Company Three for fifteen years, named in the Stage100 from 2020-23 and an ArtWorks/Barbican and Civic Futures Fellow. Under his leadership, Company Three was awarded the Peter Brook/Empty Space Award for Innovation and the Stage Community Project of the Year.
Shotput is a dance-theatre company. We make work about the darker corners of contemporary life with athleticism, humour, and a healthy sense of the absurd. We are fascinated with human relationships, and our mission is above all to connect with people through shared spaces. Our productions are physically and visually rigourous, rooted in experimentation and collaboration. We define our work not as a collection of shows, but as a network of relationships with artists and audiences. Founded in Glasgow in 2018, Shotput is run by co-artistic directors Lucy Ireland and Jim Manganello.
This course is being supported by Creative Scotland, Imaginate, The Work Room, and Platform.
